MEXICO CITY ART WEEK 2026
Studio davidpompa and Contramar reunite during Mexico City Art Week 2026 to present Fragmentos de mar, an exhibition that reflects on transformation, memory, and the poetry of materials. This collaboration draws from the sea, its movement, its fragments. Shells resurface as raw material for a new creation: a Bio Shell Composite made from discarded shells, transformed into a material that tells a story of origin and renewal. Sourced from Puerto Libertad, where Contramar’s long-standing fishermen and suppliers harvest the three clam varieties central to this project—blanca, reina, and roja—the shells carry the rhythm and flavor of the sea before becoming part of a new material narrative.

Through sculptural lighting and culinary interpretation, Fragmentos de Mar explores how nature’s remnants become vessels of memory. The exhibition traces the journey of matter: from sea to table, from table to object, from object to collective memory. New pieces developed by the studio use the Bio Shell Composite, presented alongside a series of art pieces that highlight the material’s texture, density, and origin.
The collaboration with Contramar extends beyond the table: it becomes a conversation about process and legacy. Each dish and each object reflect a shared pursuit of precision in craft. Throughout the week, Contramar offers a special culinary moment inspired by the processes showcased in the exhibition, an interpretation rooted in their daily practice, honoring the ingredients and their traditional preparations.

Fragmentos de mar is a multisensory encounter where process, light, and material converge in a narrative shaped by the sea, exploring fragments, memory, and making. The space becomes a social moment as well, a gathering point where design, gastronomy, and community meet through shared experience.
